FAURSCHOU FOUNDATION

Faurschou Foundation has now found the right premises in Pakhus 53 - a 1500 m2 ex-warehouse in Copenhagen's North Harbour.

Faurschou Foundation is a new privately funded art institution to open in Copenhagen September 2012 in Pakhus 53 in Nordhavnen.

The inaugural exhibition will be a solo exhibition by the internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Cai Guo-Qiang. For the past 15 years Cai Guo-Qiang has exhibited all over the world and he is known for his gunpowder explosions and large-scale site-specific installations. Cai Guo-Qiang had his first solo exhibition at the Louisiana Museum in Denmark in 1997 and recently had a large retrospective exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum, New York, in 2008.

Behind Faurschou Foundation are Luise and Jens Faurschou who have for 25 years been running a gallery in Copenhagen and since 2007 a branch in Beijing.

The opening of Pakhus 53 in September 2012 will be marking the transition from commercial gallery to art foundation that Faurschou has now undergone.

With the establishment of Faurschou Foundation Luise and Jens Faurschou are realizing a long-held dream of devoting all their time, skills and networks to expanding and developing their collection and creating exhibitions of a high international standard. Both at the existing premises in Beijing, and at the new exhibition space here in Copenhagen.

In the future the exhibitions at Faurschou Foundation in Beijing and in Copenhagen will take their starting point in the collection, and Luise and Jens Faurschou will be creating new exhibitions in collaboration with some of the best contemporary artists, curators, museums and galleries all over the world.

The collection will thus be shown regularly, both in solo exhibitions of works by the artists' represented in the collection and in thematic exhibitions of works by several artists.

For many years it has been the dream of Luise and Jens Faurschou to focus on the collection and its development, and the possibility of showing it. On the basis of the results and the collection created over the years, it has now become possible to realize this dream.

Both exhibition spaces in Copenhagen and Beijing are based on private funding, but will be oriented towards - and open to - the general public.

Pakhus 53 is a fantastic high-ceilinged space. With its spaciousness and simplicity it is very suitable for housing all conceivable kinds of art exhibitions. Faurschou Foundation will in the future have 1500 m2 in Copenhagen.

In these industrial surroundings, which recall the Chelsea area in New York, Faurschou Foundation will be the first major instance of art moving in and in the course of the next few years the North Harbour area will be transformed into a new city neighbourhood that mixes new housing, shops and businesses, with squares and harbour promenades.

Pakhus 53 is one large, open space with a strong industrial feel to it.
