Galleri Faurschou 1986-2001
27.09.01 - 20.10.01
In September 2001 Galleri Faurschou celebrates 15 years anniversary. On that occasion selected works from the past 15 years will be shown.
Artists featured will be Georg Baselitz, Gerhard Richter, Per Kirkeby, Mark Tansey, Nan Goldin, Asger Jorn, Kim Sooja and Shirin Neshat.
Luise and Jens Faurschou started Galleri Faurschou in 1986. Without much experience with running a gallery, but with great ambitions, they rented a space in Store Standstraede, where the gallery is still located today.
In the early 1990's the gallery started working with Michael Kvium and Christian Lemmerz-artists they also represent today, alongside Nina-Steen Knudsen, Zbigniew Libera, Wim Delvoye, Mark Tansey, and Bjarne Melgaard.
From the onset their ambition was to promote art of high international calibre. During the first five years Miquel Barcelo, Georg Baselitz, Anselm Kiefer, Per Kirkeby, Sigmar Polke, Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Pierre Alechinsky and Asger Jorn were exhibited.
In 1993, Faurschou presented Bruce Nauman and Monet whilst in 1995, Mark Tansey had his first gallery exhibition outside the US in the gallery. Likewise, neither Tracey Moffatt nor Nan Golden were well-known in Denmark when both artists were shown at Faurschou in 1997/1998.
As reflected by the artists represented in this exhibition, Galleri Faurschou characteristically promotes both Modernist artist such as Munch, Picasso and Jorn - internationally renowned contemporary artists like Rauschenberg and Richter and cutting edge contemporary artists such as Shirin Neshat and Kim Sooja who both have been given due representation in Denmark by Galleri Faurschou.
Illustrated catalogue available.
Opening Thursday 27th September from 16.00 - 18.00.
