19.05.10 Michael Kvium in group exhibition 'Shades of Black ' at Ordrupgaard 22.05 - 29.08.10
Throughout the summer of 2010 Ordrupgaard will present the exhibition Shades of Black with Martin Bigum • Preben Fjederholt • Thomas Kluge • Michael Kvium • Peter Martensen • Ulrik Møller • Odd Nerdrum • Balder Olrik.
For the first time, these eight significant artists are presented in a joint exhibition, shedding light on an overlooked current in contemporary art. The singular artists share the commonality of, in nuances of black, depicting the great classical themes of art: Death, time and history from a contemporary point of view.
Shades of Black has been created in a cooperative effort between Ordrupgaard, Vejle Kunstmuseum and art historian Merete Sanderhoff. The exhibition will subsequently be presented at Vejle Kunstmuseum.

19.01.07 New works by Michael Kvium at Ordrupgaard
In his current solo exhibition, Silent Eye, at the Ordrupgaard Collection in Zaha Hadid's extension to the museum, Michael Kvium's art takes a new direction, posing questions to the meaning of painting nature and landscapes in contemporary art.
Birch trunks, sheep, skies and landscapes are Kvium’s new motives. "I have removed the human figure from this exhibition rather to avoid that we look at ’them’ instead of looking at ourselves and the way we perceive a painting. This has given me an opportunity to work with an entirely different kind of presence, which at the same time has given me more space to clarify the painting process for myself and on canvas. I felt this sensation of presence very profoundly at times, and I hope I am able to communicate this feeling to others”.
In his latest works, Michael Kvium plays with our relationship with nature and our rewriting of motives. Kvium is preoccupied with, and explores, the relationship between what it is we actually see and what it is we believe we see. The Silent Eye, also the exhibition title, is to Kvium the inner eye observing this relation.
The exhibition period is 19.01.07-15.07.07
